Audi is touting the traction qualities of its e-Tron electric SUV in a video showing it climbing an incline of 85% on a ski slope at Kitzbühel, Austria.
In Austria, the Kitzbühel station is famous for the "Streif", it is downhill ski slope which has an 85% slope called "Mausefalle". Audi thought that it needed no less to highlight the performance of its first electric SUV, the e-Tron. The German brand has undertaken to prepare a special version of its electric car, not to hit the track, but to go up.To meet this challenge, Audi engineers equipped an e-Tron with a special engine consisting of two electric motors on the rear axle and a motor on the front axle. The result, the prototype develops 370 kW for a torque of 8,920 Nm. And to pass this power on a snowy track, Audi equipped the e-Tron with 19-inch wheels specially designed for this challenge and studded tires.
Thee-Tron attacks the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace
For the attempt, the wheel was entrusted to Mattias Ekström, double DTM champion, and rallycross world champion. As can be seen in the video, the ascent went smoothly. At the end of the sequence, we see a cable connected to the e-Tron. Audi says it is a safety system and has not been used to tow the electric SUV.With thee-Tron, Audi enters the high-end electric car market, positioning itself against Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace. In its standard version, the e-Tron is equipped with two electric motors, a Quattro all-wheel drive. It develops 360 hp and announces a range of 400 km. Its base price is 82,600 euros.
